Telewest Upgrade Cable Broadband Speeds (20 Dec 2004)

Blueyonder Leads The Way, Remains Unlimited

Telewest Blueyonder have completed the roll out of their upgraded cable broadband speeds.

Telewest's new packages are:

4Mb (was 3MB) upload 384Kb (was 256Kb) @ £50.00

2Mb (was 1.5Mb) @ £35.00

1Mb (was 750Kb) @ £25.00

Telewest do have a limited use entry level product at 256Kb for £17.99 a month. Discounts may be available for new customers on all services.

Telewest have reconfirmed their commitment to unlimited use. In the press release of 11th November 2004, Eric Tveter, the President and Chief Operating Officer of Telewest is quoted as saying:

"This isn't a short-term offer and there are no catches - we're simply giving broadband users what they want, thanks to our advanced cable network. Christmas is a time for giving, so anyone fed up with Scrooge-like behaviour from their ISP knows where to come for faster, unlimited internet access."

Telewest continues to keep the pressure on their cable rivals, ntl. They have quietly gone about the upgrade process, announcing and rolling it out in record time. Meanwhile ntl, who started off this round of upgrades, bide their time, and talk about restrictive caps and even metering.

It's a shame the cable franchises don't overlap. Rumours continue that Telewest and ntl will merge, hopefully the good practice of the former will rub off on the latter. That would make a nice New Year resolution for ntl!
